FRESH START: "Taste And See"

A New Year causes us to reflect on where we have been and where we want to go. Often over a year, we have developed habits that we know are not good for us but in some way comfort us. It might be overindulgence in our diet, laziness in our fitness and health endeavors, complacency in pursuing our dreams, lack of discipline in our spiritual walk, and the list goes on.

I got into the habit of watching reels on my phone. If I was waiting in line, having a hard time falling asleep, or whatever, the phone and scrolling became a habit. They call it Zombie Scrolling. Because you could scroll these short little 90-second reels for hours and at the end of the day you are left with nothing but wasted time.

This is one of those habits that I knew I needed to close the door on in the New Year. So I challenged myself to work through my scripture reading plan every time I had the urge to scroll reels. I started taking notes and digging deeper into each passage. After the third day, I realized that my time in God’s Word gave me something to think about in those moments of waiting in line, having a hard time falling asleep, whatever. God’s Word was bearing fruit in my life. God’s Word was pulling me out of a Zombie trance and into abundant and fruitful living.
As the saying goes, “The proof is in the pudding.” This saying dates back to the 1600s and refers to tasting the pudding to know if it's any good. Scripture says this, "Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him." Psalm 34:8.

In just a few short days, I've tasted the abundance of God's Holy Word and "the proof is in the pudding"! The Lord is good!

What habits do you need to leave behind as you step into a New Year?

I challenge you to "taste and see that the Lord is good."
