FRESH START: "Bad Habits"
“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste it, to experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
Why is it that we become creatures of habit? Habits give us structure and routines that guide us through our day. The other day I came home and changed into my comfortable clothes and put on a sweater and my house shoes and in a vivid thought I had become Mister Rogers. As a child, I loved watching Mr. Rogers, don’t get me wrong. However, at that moment I realized that I too had formed a habit that signaled the end of the day. A habit that allowed me to relax and gave me comfort to settle in for the night. And that’s when I realized how habits; although necessary, can often make us settle.
When we settle we can become rigid to new ideas, new patterns, new adventures, and new opportunities. We get comfortable and for some reason, we feel safe in our comfort zone and we become stagnant. Life is constantly moving around us and invites us to journey with it. New experiences, new opportunities, new seasons of growth, new possibilities.
So as the New Year opens a new blank page we are encouraged to examine our lives. Where have we settled? What habits are helpful and what habits are hindering our growth? What do we need to shred and surrender to soar and succeed?
Just something to think about!

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:19
