FRESH START: "God's Timing"

Time is relevant and necessary for the world we live in. Leave something in the oven too long, it burns. Consistently show up for work late and you are considered unreliable or in some cases unemployable. Get to the airport late you miss your flight. A 15-minute delay to a morning drive can add 45 minutes to your normal commute. Time is relevant. The list goes on of the consequences and constraints of time.

With all of that in mind, no wonder we can easily get frustrated when we wait upon the Lord and time continues moving forward with no resolve. Whatever the situation is that brings us to our knees in prayer it is urgent and a priority in our life. Shouldn’t the Lord respond accordingly, because time is of the essence, right?

Then I’m reminded of the story of Joseph (Genesis 37-50). Discarded by his brothers, accused, abandoned, and imprisoned. However, God was with Joseph in the story. Joseph would be restored and hold full authority over the redemption of his brothers and his family. God’s timing was perfect. Decades in the making.

Maybe that is a reminder to us that God’s timing is not bound by deadlines or schedules. God’s timing is woven like a tapestry through all of Creation and moving at a pace that the human eye and mind are unable to perceive. I’m not sure what you’re waiting on or who you are waiting for, but I think we can be reminded that God is in the story and in that timeless truth we can trust!

“Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end" Ecclesiastes 3:11

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day" 2 Peter 3:8-9

“I trusted in, relied on, and was confident in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God. My times are in Your hands" Psalm 31:14-15
